Dear Partners in the mission,

Perhaps you are wondering what a priest does during the day. Does he only work on Sundays?  The quick answer is no, most of our priests work six days of the week and some even seven.  They work on holidays and Holydays. Some days just a short time, such as a holiday like July 4th, others a longer time.

My days are not the same in length and certainly some things I do remain the same (8:00 a.m. Mass) and some vary, such as a funeral. So for those of you who wonder, here was what I did on Thursday, June 29th.  By the way this was much longer than most days.  I woke up probably around 6 (some of these things I base on my routine as I don’t remember exactly).    I got some coffee, headed over to church, probably spent a half hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.  I cleaned up, etc. and celebrated the 8:00 am Mass.  After Mass I probably ate a light breakfast, I had an appointment at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 for various reasons and on various topics.  I met with a few family members for an upcoming funeral at 1:30 pm.  Somewhere in this day I prayed the office, morning prayer, daytime prayer and had some type of dinner. I also did administrative work, just don’t remember exactly what. I had another appointment at 5:30 and then we had a meeting at 7:00 pm at a parishioner’s house.  The meeting was designed to brainstorm on what can we do to help our men live their Catholic faith  i…e.. celebrate Mass every Sunday with their family, pray, live their Catholic faith, etc.  There are some prayers I try to say daily and at that time I was praying a novena to the Holy Spirit and the Memorare.  After that meeting I went to see my spiritual director, got home late that evening, and prayed liturgy of the hours, then retired for the evening.
